Hi guys, this is my latest costume.I work during 5 long and hard months on Hilde. Why Hilde? She is from far my favourite character from Soulcalibur! First, I was in love with her IV outfit, but when the soulcalibur V was released, I found this one particulary interesting.
As I won at Paris cosplay a sewing machine, I wanted to give a try to this version for use the gift and make other thing than full armor. It was very interesting to sew, to dye fabric and fur, to create patterns myself. I spend more time on the fabric parts than the armor itself.
I made myself the purple jacket with " matelassé" aspect. All is hand made, the chain mail, the helmet with the removing part on the top, the eperons, the belts...I dye the wig too in order to have the good " red/auburn".
The flag was the hardest part with the little red skit and the helmet.
5 months ago, I meet Laura, who worked on Hilde too, we shared lot of things thank to Hilde ^^ I was really happy to find someone who made Hilde in the same time. I finally meet Laura during Japan expo, and she was really kind and funny! Have a look on her gallery please :
During the con the weather was very very hot, it was hard to wear Hilde's outfit, but I was at ease on stage ^^ I was however very very tired and my face show how I was close to faint è_è
This is the link of my skit, sadly because of the light, no one saw my fighting pose at the beginning.
My goodness! The detail on the armor! @-@ 5 months and from the soles of your fingers you produce a masterpiece. :0 What exactly did you use to create the armor and helmet?
Wow, what you do with EVA foam is brilliant and amazing, I absolutely envy your abilities! I shall have to look into that, been trying to figure out how to paint my Shepard armor and I've come across some ideas, but your work is so beautiful, just had to ask!
Thank you so much ^^ I began to work with gymnastic foam ( very cheap and the surface wasn't smooth) in 2010 I discovered EVA foam, it was a lot expensive compared to my cheap foam for gymnastic but as I was used to craft my old foam I learn a lot of practice. EVA work is similar to other kind of foam but, the result is smooth and I prefer EVA even if it cost a lot... It is that's why I spend so many months on my costumes, I like to take my time and have a result correct. I apply a elastic coating on my foam and after a smooth lot of coating, I can paint.Painting is one of my favourite part in a costume because I can see how it will be finish and it is very exciting! Good luck with your project and don't forget: with patience all is possible!
What sort of foam do you typically use?
And what sort of paint actually sticks to the foam?
